While World War II was a time of devastation it was also a time of innovation and progressing technology. Such as the V1 and V2 rockets as well as the jet aircraft that were developed during the war. This lead to a new form of war and a time of mobilization. The helicopter was also developed and is still used today. Nuclear bombs were also made and a new form of warfare was made. And super powers were formed as a result. A war was even ended due to two nuclear bombs. There was also a number of communication advances such was wireless communication that was used both by the armies and by the civilians. The radio is still seen every where you go today such as in homes, cars and laptops. Without the war and the need for this technological advancements and we might never of had the knowledge of technology that we have today.

While it can be argued that there was no specific turning point in the war or at least not one with a big enough effect on the war. But that's not exactly true. Before the Battle of Stalingrad the Germans were winning and seemed to be unstoppable. The Germans were winning in the street fighting and had won most of the city. However, the Russians used this to their advantage and trapped the Germans in the city. Resulting in the Germans surrender between Jan. 31 and Feb. with over 2 300,000 German troops surrendering. After the Germans lost to the Russians it turned around for the allies. From there the allies grew in strength and were able to take France on D-day. Without this turning point at the battle of Stalingrad, WW11 would not have had the positive outcome that it did. And we wouldn't have the world as we know it.
The quote "Wars are not won on evacuations," means that you can't win a war by running away from it. At some point you have to stand your ground and fight if you ever want to see your country succeed and the war end. Churchill recognizes that the allies due not have strong footing in the war if they do not face their enemies. Instead they are only prolonging the moment of attack. While evacuations may be necessary at time, it is not the solution needed to win and finally finish a war. To do that you need to fight, not run. At some point there comes a time when endurance and perseverance is needed to win a war and evacuations are not going to do that for you and your country. The allies needed to take a stand and stop Germany in their tracks and to do that they had to advance instead of run. Churchill was able to recognize this fact long before the allies were able and ready to take a stand. This a key point if not hard to exercise that need to be done to win any war.
