-1920 Hitler joined the german Workers Party (anti-weimar republic)

-this party created the brownshirted S.A. led by Ernst Rohm a paramilitary force designed after Mussolini's balckshirts
-1928, 12 Nazis are elected to Reichstag
-the depression was helpful in gaining power
-Hitler's henchmen used through the late 20's and early 30's to harass opposition parties unmercifully
-enabling act- gave him all the power- only per on standing in his way is the president
-then outlaws the other parties
-night of long knives- any would be internal challengers were murdered
-creates SS
-was congratulated by Hindenburg the president- died a month later
-runs for president wins 99.9% (1934)

Summary
